Hi all! tank has been up for about 1.5years and did really pay attention to these little creeps but I started to lose corals for what I thought was no reason, torches bailed, Duncan’s just slowly withered away to nothing. than I saw that these snails are every where in my rock. 1000s. Tiny not over 1/4” tall. I have a six line wrasse, some bumble bee snails and they don’t look like they are eating any. What can I do besides get new live rock? Smash them? Will more flow in tank help? water parameters are after water change tonight are.
alk 10.9
ammonia .2
nitrate 20
phos .2
ph 8.2
cal 440
mag 1410
Can use any advise on how to get this under control quickl.

Simply with a needle nose pliers break them off at the base and discard

I like the needle nose plier option. Others superglue the top of the tube so it starves but seems like too much work.

Are you sure the snails are to blame? Have you witnessed them actually bothering your corals? I've had vermiteds both big and small for many years and always thought people blamed them for unhealthy corals too much.

But it does hurt when they poke you!

Fwiw your phosphates are very high, if you get them under control I bet the vermiteds start to die off (and your corals will be happier)

i did see there web stuff on the Duncan. I thought .2 was ok .1 was really good on phos. What do you do to drop yours And keep them low?
Even .1 is considered very high by alot of people, most shoot for like .03 I believe. I personally am okay with Po4 closer to .1

What are you doing for filtration?

Just to further explain my experience, for the first couple of years of my tank vermited snails were everywhere. But as my tank matured they faded away. Nowadays I'm not sure if I could find one if I tried (not that I care about them). My tank is nearing 10 yrs old though

Tank is a 75gallon, 2 reefi duo extreme lights,Trigger emerald 36 sump, reef octopus 150 skimmer, chaeto and 2 Nero 5 wave makers.
OK I'll try to hide my extreme jealousy of your reefi lights and just recommend gfo. Brs high capacity stuff is very good but I always use less than recommended dose (maybe 75% of the recommended dose)

LoL talk my girl into spending the stimulus check on them was running black boxes. I have heard of gfo but havent done research on it, guess that is my next step.
Nice, I tried tk talk the wife into those as well. Ended up compromising on the Reefbreeders
.
How big of a reactor do you think I need?
The smallest you can find. You don't need much gfo at all. lanthium chloride another solid option to lower phosphates. Just do your research and decide which you want to go with. The main thing is not to lower phosphates too fast, I've killed a handful of corals that way.

I keep some carbon in the closet but only use it if I believe some chemical may have gotten into my tank (or an anemone gets chopped up by a powerhead or something). There are studies showing a possible connection between lateral line disease in saltwater fish and carbon usage so I wouldn't recommend using it too often.
