I have a vlamingi that has far more personality and apparent intelligence than either of my wife’s cats. Have never had an Naso or other related species so appreciate feedback from folks who have.
Now I realize evolutionarily that many species of fish mask their eyes with distinctive patterns or colors That may keep us from knowing exactly what they’re looking at.
This fish’s eyes are so expressive it seems only to add to his personality. It watches my hands while I go into the drawer to get the Nori out. It watches me from across the room and settles in when I sit in the couch to watch the tank. If a stranger comes into the room he goes into hiding behind rocks and won’t come out to the stranger leaves.
So is its apparent intelligence partly because we can see the attention and direction? Or have other people had the same experience with these types of tangs?
and does it only make it harder that he is slowly out-growing his 180 And I need to start to plan rehoming - or a new tank?

I raised up and cared for a Vlamingi at the store I worked at for 4 years. He had the most personality out of all the fish I have ever seen. Even more than puffers and flowerhorns. It was very sad that I had to end up selling him since he was outgrowing the 180 that he had grown up in, but I know he's very happy in the 1000 gallon aquarium he's in now :).
