I keep reading about Vodka dosing. Can someone enlighten me as to what this actually is? The liquor vodka? What does it do?

Been dosing Vodka for a while now and showing great results with low nitrates and phosphates.

The article was very interesting. My problem is in my FO tank. Would it work in that as well? There are no corals in this tank as it has 2 eels.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but with a FO tank you don't have to be quite as strict on feeding. What are your current NO3 and PO4 readings averaging? What other means of filtration are you using? What are your feeding habits? Its not a fix all for over feeding. There are drawbacks to carbon dosing... I'd research it more than just reading that article. Read what happens when people suddenly stop or start dosing too much at once and things like that.

I am using API test kit and I know that is not the most accurate. Nitrates have been off the chart but came down this week a little. Phosphates have also been off the chart. Put a Phos-gard bag in the sump on Sunday. I have a large custom sump with 2 filter socks and a model 300 Top Fathom Skimmer. There are 7 fish, 2 eels, and an anemone in the tank. They are fed Formula II pellets in the AM and some sort of fish product in the evening - silversides, brine, mysis, Rogger's. I am trying my best to not overfeed but these are all very mature fish and I want to make sure they get enough. They are eating everything I put in the tank within about 20 min. One of the eels I can handfeed.

The tank was a well established tank but moved to my house a little over a month ago. We were able to move about 50% of the existing water and I have been doing 15% water changes weekly with RO/DI water. I am using Crystal Sea Salt Mix.
