I have 3 vortech mp40's. I have also had snails get into them when I had them off during the times I feed my coral. upon start up I get a jam and a lot of frustration. I was wondering, how many of you actually use the foam covers that come with the pumps? can you give me the pros and cons. I haven't been using them because I figure they would start to clog up and hamper and slow the flow of the pumps. also I couldn't actually see the impellers moving to make sure they were working at a glance.

please any pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

I used them briefly on my mp40s. I took them off because they were needing to be cleaned every few days. It got to be bothersome. I've never had any snails get stuck in them though.

I've got a BTA so I keep them on all the time. I keep several sets so that each time I clean the glass I switch them out and wash the dirty ones and they're ready for the next switch out.

I have used the foam covers on mine didn't really like them they get dirty quick but they are nice to use every once awhile I think.

They do work well but they also need cleaned periodically to keep the flow up.
