I’m hoping to get an Apex for fishmas. In anticipation of that, I’m considering getting new power heads/wave makers. I can’t decide between a pair of mp10’s, a pair of Neptune Wav or the Tunze Turbelles. Pros and cons.... mp10 have raving reviews but are unidirectional and expensive. And although some people love the cord outside the tank, it kind of defeats the purpose of the clean, minimal cords benefit of the Apex. I want to hide the cords. Wav is a natural match for the Apex and even though they are programmable, they seem a bit much for my 60 cube. 4000 gph is a lot of movement and if I have two, there’s no telling where the fish will end up! The Tunze are just great pumps. Tunze has been around forever. We used them back in 2003 and loved them. I have one in my 32 now and it’s pretty cool. Problem is, I can hear it alternating speeds in surge mode. Tunze are typically dead quiet but this one isn’t. It’s not an irritating noise but I can hear it and it bothers me that I can hear it at all.

If you guys have experience with any of these, how do they compare? Please help me figure this out!

I love both Tunze and vortech. I am going to go with Tunze for my next build m, but you can’t go wrong either way

I have two tanks 120g each running 2 WAVs in both they are powerful but can be turned down to 1875 revs even then they still give off a lot of flow but the flow does decrease after a while, I have all of them pointing upwards off the back wall and towards the tank sides, hope this is of use to you.

All good pumps. MP10 might be a bit small for a 60 though. WAV can be turned down. Cords buzz on the WAV which is quite annoying. Haven’t used Tunze in over a decade, so no insight on the current models.

I have considered getting just one mp40 but I really want two wave makers opposing one another. If I can get random flow from them, all the better. I don’t know anything about the programmability of the mp’s but I know what I can do with the others. I really like the Tunze pumps but something in the back of my head tells me to consider others. Presently, I have two Eheim constant flow pumps. They are work horses but not programmable and have little directional adjustability. I like them as back ups. I’ve used three other pumps and had bad luck with them. That’s why I’m being so careful. Lots of money down the drain!
