I'm new to the hobby. I have a BC29 and I'm needing to get a test kit. Can someone provide a link to one for a newbie. Thanks.

API is far from amazing, but for Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate it gets the job done.

If you want higher accuracy, look in to Red Sea PRO, Salifert, and Hanna Checkers.

What do you recommend for a nitrate and nitrite I use a API and I know its not very accurate I have a Hannah checker for phosphates I also have the Red Sea Pro but for alk and calcium ??

I use API for nitrate (I don't test Nitrite). If you need more accuracy, or are suspicious of the results of API, then go for Red Sea Pro or Salifert.

I am about to set up a new tank and I'll test often for a while OK look into a Salifert testers

I've used many of them. I like Salifert for nitrates, KH, Calcium, and Mag.
A saltwater refractometer and a mercury Thermometer.
