Hey so I found this weird red purple algae today and I’m wondering what is it and what should I do.

Looks like you have a high nutrient issue. What are your parameters? I would work on manual removal of the algae and get your chems in check. Are you using RODI water?

Defiantly looks like hair algae. You have to check the chemicals in your tank. I cant remember what fish I bought, but there is a type of fish that will eat it as well.

I would let your tank complete cycling before adding coral. If you arent testing your water begin doing so. As your tank cycles it will go through some nasty stages as it balances out. Get some tests going so you know where your nutrients are at and keep up on water changes with manual removal of the algae until your tank is cycled. Adding coral now will just create more nutrient issues and help your wallet lose weight.

The red/ purple is probably the start of cyano. But agree with the above comments. Apparently your LFS has a lot of nutrients in the water as well

How long has the tank been running?
What is the tank size?
What kind of filtration are your running?
What are your parameters?

Before getting in to any treatments test your water. If you begin stocking a tank while it is still cycling you will just prolong the magic of the ugly stages as you add nutrients with food and livestock that the bacteria in the tank can not yet support.
