Bought a new zoa frag on Wednesday and last night when I shined a light in the tank to check things out the entire frag moved. Noticed these 1/4 inch long by 1/8 inch wide openings between the zoa polyps. When I shine a light on them they totally close moving the whole frag. No idea what this is. Could it be a clam that the zoa grew over? Very strange looking

Would consider it a bonus. Bivalves (clams, oysters, mussels, scallops) are filter-feeders, and do little to no harm. The catch being that if there's not enough suspended food in your water, the critter may not survive.

Feed the tank Reef Roids twice a week. Do you think that would support him?

Wish I could say for certain ... often, these bivalves don't last long in most reef aquaria. In a system that's designed for NPS, they might fare better, as both the NPS and the oysters are being fed. Twice a week ... might not be enough. More often ... might strain your nutrient export systems.

Excellent to know. Thanks. He’s actually very neat looking. Not sure why I didn’t notice him at the LFS before I bought the frag. Must’ve been closed up
