Hi. I have something growing on the back wall of my tank.

It is a 29g Biocube.
I do a 5g water change per week.
All parameters are good.
Salinity maybe go up and down a small amount.

It grew after this weeks water change.
I did 2 thing different this week.
I used water from my new RO/DI buddie and I added a new wood stone to my skimmer.
I did not rinse or do anything to the wood before I put it in.

I cleaned it of and it came back.

Not sure what you are showing us. If it is the purple stuff on the back wall of the tank, it is probably Coraline algae, an indicator of a healthy tank.

What are your actual parameters? Also what are your salinity number ranges?

Here are my parameters

PH 8 to 8.4 - can tell on my test and my PH meter broke

Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Salinity between 1.0245 to 1.0265

In the video there is a flutter or shimmer on the wall. It is actually a clear fur.

You can also see it on the larger shell of a hermit crab.

Thanks

Stability is our friend in the hobby. The less fluctuation you have in any parameter, the better off you are. And while that small fluctuation in salinity is probably related to evaporation, it is easily remedied with an auto top-off system.

What you pointed out in the video appears to hair algae. We would all like a tank that is algae free without having to manually remove it. But I don't know of anyone who has a tank (fresh or salt water) that doesn't have to manually remove algae with a scraper of a brush.

I would recommend manual removal right BEFORE water changes so that you can siphon out of the water what you scrape off.

What is your water source; is it RODI? Also, how frequently do you do water changes and how much do you change out?

At some point I will get an ATO.

The water is RODI from. New RO Buddy.

About a month ago I started doing weekly water changes. 5g at a time, I have a 29g Biocube.
