I got to looking at the frag rack and I have a couple of nice acan frags. Where do you usually put them in the tank
and I was thinking of just mounting them to a piece of rock and putting them on the bottom. Give me some ideas or maybe even a pic or two.

I have them on my sandbed, but they'll eventually need more flat rock to grow across. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I have them set up in a little garden kinda thing.

What kinda lighting do you have. I have 3 T5's and 2 Stunner strips stuffed into my biocube hood . If you don't have much light then I'd say put them higher in the tank.

Definitely plan for the lighting with these guys. Too much can cause them to recede and die.

Most of my acans are midway up the tanks. I've not found lighting that they don't like (except when they fall behind rocks) that light they don't like.

I'm Matt n I sometimes water my carpet.

I have found the less light you give them the more they color up. I try and hide mine under ledges or at the bottom 3rd of my tank. I run 6 t5's over a red sea max 250. I also try and spot feed them once a week or so.

.

I have the same setup and all my rainbow acans turn orange unless I hide them in shadows. Out in the open on the sandbed and they lose colors.

^^ Ditto, i give mine very little light and they do well. If i give them what i would consider low light they turn pale. And they do like to feed!

250 watt radiums. guess i'll keep them on the bottom

With those lights I would keep them on the bottom 1/3 of the tank for sure. I have kept some about mid way up under 250w Radiums and they lost their rainbow colors. They were still beautiful colors but not anything like they were when I first got them. Now I have them on the bottom of my T5 system and the rainbow colors are coming back. Also I have found that they like low to medium flow but not a "turbulent" flow pattern. I think that has a lot to do with their overall health and coloring. BTW I never feed my acans and they look great. They don't grow as fast as I have seen other peoples do, but I'm ok with that.

i have 25 different kinds of acan frags. I find most of them like medium light. I have them under 250W at mid tank, though few of them do prefer at the bottom. They all like low flow that is for sure. I used to feed them fauna pellets 3 times a week, however, i have been lazy lately so i only target feed them once a week.
