Howdy. I'm going barebottom on my tank and want to buy a white plastic on the bottom pane, to protect the glass and give the illusion of sand. Which plastic is safe to use in a reef? ABS? HDPE? Acrylic?

Thanks!

It'll turn green from algae. It'll also trap thin layer of debris underneath the sheet defeating the purpose for BB

I mounted cheap mirrored glass to the outside/dryside underneath of my tank. The uplighting is amazing causing you to forget about sand.

They sell cheap mirrors at Home Depot that are thin enough to lay on concrete, run a sharp razir blade along a straight edge causing a scratchline in the glass after running the blade hard over and over again......and it "snaps" fairly evenly. Straight enough to mount underneath the tank

.

Sounds like HDPE is the way to go. Although the mirror idea is cool, I still want something to protect the bottom pane of glass, and I plan on gluing it down to prevent detritus build under the plastic .

Thanks again!

I went with black HDPE and glued it down. Works PERFECT.
