Hey R2R,

I got some concerns over my new platinum clown. I've noticed her having some white stringy poop about a couple weeks ago. I've been watching her closely and her diet habits have changed from eagerly eating mysis and flake to only eating cyclopeeze now but still very eagerly. All else seems fine but she continues to have long stringy white poop.
I have only had the clowns about 3 weeks and they are young fish.

In doing some research I read that it is possibly worms or Brooklynella or possibly just long stringy poop.

I am concerned at this point that it has not resolved itself...I'm wondering what some clown pros would do in this situation or if perhaps they can shed a bit more light with experience on whether or not this is actually a parasite.

Certainly this is my fault for not having a QT already setup for my fish. Space is a premium right now in the apartment but I am going to look into it this weekend. My current plan is to just keep feeding and observing as i am not noticing any other symptoms at all.

Any and all comments welcome, even the harsh ones please. Thanks.

paul

Did the white poop start before or after she changed her diet? Have you added any new fish after her?

I would lean toward just white stringy poop for no reason since she is captive bred (assumption since she is a plat) They can start showing stringy white poop if they were fasted as well. If this started after her diet change I would say thats probably the cause. Try some new foods to get her eating more?

If u think is internal parasite, worms use prazipro ,I herd they have flakes that has a deworme med in it u feed it for 2 weeks , I forgot the name , there is a food that new life makes, its call thera A it come with extra garlic not sayin it cures parasite but the fish is attracted more then regular food when sick

how are they doing after a few days? hope they are doing well. I think I remember your Platinum pair. they are very nice.

Hey guys, sorry for not checking this! Somehow my subscription is not emailing me these responses.

I've been watching the clowns pretty closely and at this point I'm definitely leaning away from parasite as no physical signs exist. Both look like they are gaining weight and color, fin growth is good, swimming good, breathing is all good.
There is a lethargic eating response once in a while from the female. She will eat cyclopeeze very eagerly for a couple days then a lethargic response for couple days. I'm convinced at this point she is supplementing her diet with pods in the tank (they are all over the glass including during the day) and perhaps this is the reason for the color of the excrement. She will still only eat cyclopeeze and on the days she eats the cyclops, the color of her poop changes (phew).
The male is a beast and eats fauna pellets whole, so he's a joy to feed and watch.

I do hope they remain healthy, I'm growing quite attached to them.

JovReefer, i suspected along with you that she was not infected b/c yes i did get her from Brian at clownfish depot. Can't be too sure tho, right? I have been trying to feed a variety to the clown (mysis, cyclops, fauna pellet, spectrum flake) but still no response to anything except cyclops. I will continue to try a variety.

Temper76 do clowns need greens in their diet? I did not know that. I will attempt to add some more variety as said.

Marvin, you were the followup response that convinced me to buy these amazing clowns! Happy to say they don't even look at the hammer but they haven't really ventured the tank yet so we'll see. Even if so I'm going to be upgrading soon so perhaps a nem will be in the future for these guys. Thanks again for your advice, these guys act nothing like the wild caught percula pair i had a very long time ago. So much more chill.

So my main concern now is getting the female enough protein...will cyclopeeze deliver enough protein for the clowns? I'm thinking about trying some other reef nutrition foods to try and trigger feeding response. I was also thinking about adding a couple more tiny gobies to help trigger a feeding frenzy when feeding time.

Here they were as of yesterday...sorry for the intense blue LED discoloration of the picture (perhaps the worst part of having LEDs) and my horribly shaky hands:

no worries. they were awesome clowns. 1smile1

did you post a vid or a pic?

Yah, there is a vid in the post...can you not see it?

I also wanted to mention that I would be QTing any new fish that come in...this latest scare has convinced me a QT is 100% essential even if it's for peace of mind!
