Hi Folks,

I have a zoa colony about 6/8 months and in the past 2 months, noticed that some of my polyps are like an upside down umbrella.

I couldn't figure out why. Many are fine, open and closing as expected. I recently noticed this little white worm. See pic.

It's got a tube of little stones and it extends a white arm out that sways around in flow. It's not completely random though and you'll see it picks stones up or extends and retracts in search of things. It's only about 1 - 1.5 inches long when fully extended. You can see the little stony tube top left of the zoa polyp.

It's not a digitate hydroid as the white bit it extends is smooth and isn't filtering water. I don't think it's a vermatid snail either.

I dipped the whole zoa colony in iodine this morning. No effect.

Any ideas what it is and if its harmful?

All suggestions/ help appreciated.

Thanks
C

Are they harmful? Would they cause the zoa to umbrella?

I haven’t had any problems with them. However I can imagine that your zoas might become a bit upset if they are constantly touched by the tentacles.

Thanks.... think it could be one of those worms you suggested.
