Just realized Ive never owned one, not even a Royal gramma. Please share your experiences with them. Let us know what you kept, temperment, tank mates, foods, pics. How do these guys do with wrasses? Thanks for any info you can give.

I have a swissguard basslet. He's very peaceful and shy. Stays close to the rockwork but pokes his body out a few times a day. Gets along fine with my orange back wrasse, wantanabi angel, kole tang, blue spot jawfish and clownfish. The tang is the most active and can spook my other fish but all other tankmates are very peaceful which I think helps keep my swissguard happy.

I have had several Royal grammas.. Always loved this fish. Peaceful, a little shy but not bad. Spend most of thier time looking for food in the rocks.

I have a group of 5 royal grammas. Not sure what will happen in the future, but they are all fine with each other. Really great fish. Mellow, gorgeous, and so affordable!

I have a pair of Swissguards, but I've kept most. My swissguards have always been bullied, but they will eat smaller things. (Barnacle Blenny, Peppermint Shrimps, Pistol Shrimps, etc.) The only ones I've known to have a "bad" attitude were the Yellow Assessor, Black cap Basslet and Lantern Basslet. Great reef fish IMO, add some activity and color to any setting. Right now my pair is in with 2 High fin Gobies, a Blue Stripe Pipefish and a Nalolo Blenny.

I just got a chalk bass and love this little guy, he's super peaceful but will stand up for himself if bullied. He stays around the rockwork, but is out and about quite a bit also. Very underrated fish in my opinion.

we had a large royal gramma, well biggest i had seen personally... was about 3" was one of the most aggressive and teritorial fish i had evre owned.... even went after our 4-5" tang.. i got rid of him...

Had a chalk bass loved him he died one day not sure why !! They get much bigger then is stated! Also have a Swales candy basslet the $100 one and love him beautiful stripes peaceful but hardy they doo stay in rock work 99% of the time

Wow really great response on this thread so far. Big thanks to everyone who contributed. Please continue to give your thoughts on this subject.

I had a blackcap basslet. He kept to himself and would usually hang out vertically on the back of my tank. He was an interesting character and made use of every inch of the tank, a true 3d fish hah.

Love my pair!

Love the pics Rick. Do you have wrasses in your tank with them? How do they do with other Basslets?

Royal grammas are in my must have fish list. I had a chalk bass for a while and became a fan of those too, it jumped one day. Awesome fish though.

I always liked swissguards and candies but didn't think they would play well with my wrasses.

I have a pair of the Candy Basslets that are housed with a variety of wrasses, a Resplendent hybrid angelfish, black tang, Muelleri Butterfly, Picasso clown pair, and a mandarin dragonette. Everybody gets along beautifully. The Candy pair are out quite a bit, the male a bit more than the female. The wrasses do not pay the candy pair the time of day. Currently I have a Chaoti pair, an Earli Pair and a male McCoskers for wrasses. The only one htat is ever a punk to the Candy pair is the angel...and he is super mellow actually. Ocassionally he will chase a random fish through the rock work but it is pretty harmless. He is the most punky of the brood and the Candy pair don't really seem very bothered. They are an absolutely gorgeous pair and hold their own quite well in the tank. I was a bit worried at first that I would pay the bankroll for the pair and then never see them, hehehehe. Far from the truth, I see them all of the time in and around their favorite caves in the tank. They are very active and easy to find.

I have kept a chalk bass, timid little fella. I also had a black cap basslet, stayed in the rocks mostly but I could always find him. He built an elaborate nest for weeks once out of bits of things he collected all over the tank, I was never really sure what for. The Royal Gramma is near and dear to my heart. This is the fish I saw one day in a pet store many years ago that spoke to me and said, "You must get a fish tank and keep me." the rest is history as they say. I never looked back and have loved the hobby since that day. Basslets are cool fish :D.

Thank you do much for the info, maybe I'll have to give it a shot. You have awesome taste in fish, what size tank do have? Any pics of your basslets?
