On my system I run LEDs so I never considered buying a chiller and rev has told me all I need is a fan to chill my tank a degree or two. However, they all seem to have mixed reviews about their performance. Which fans are you using to keep your water cool and why??

I have I 125 gal dt and a 30 gal sump. I use a $12 clip on fan from walmart, because it was cheap and I don't mind replacing it every 6-8months when it gets nasty. It drops my tank by about 3-4 degrees.

Hi Ajreefs,

I also use a small clip on fan that I clipped behind my tank that blows across the surface to help blow heat from my lights away and increase evaporation. I have it hooked up to my aquarium controller to turn on when the temperature goes over 80 degrees. It easily cools it 2-3 degrees.

A clip on fan would be a good choice, but if you have a canopy or limited space over your tank, you can also use small computer fans (usually 3" or 4").

i run 4 4" fans on my 180g dt and 2 4" fans on my sump and my tank stays at 78 degrees until lights out. then the heater has to come out. i run 3 250w mh for dt lights and 2 blue & 2 actinic t5 ho on my fuge. also have a window ac for emergency cooling
