Why are these acans different?

At my LFS they have a tank of acans and some are fluffy with polyps moving in the current but right next to them others stay tightly together and firm. Why?

Acans are so picky! It could be the flow or light differences I've had them do that exact thing

The different "fluffyness" is just a difference in polyp extension. Some are reaching out more than others is all.

My acans are usually puffy. They get good indirect flow.

I think only the middle one is an acan actually, but like above it depends on a lot of factors and they can be "moody".
