2 10000k t5 daylight and 2 actinic bulbs on for 10 hours a day
55gl tank been up for 8 months. 6 small fish, 18 hermits, urchin, sea hare, emerald crab, assorted snails, some coral
I feed:
Everyday pinch of flakes and a sheet of dried seaweed for the sea hare and a few drops of phytofeast for the filter feeders.
Every other day 10 shrimp pellets for the crustaceans.
2 times a week a cube of frozen shrimp for the fish and target feeding the Duncan.

Protein skimmer needs cleaned every 3 or 4 days. I change 20gl of water weekly. And scrub the glass every 5 days or so (that's when the green film gets annoying enough.

The red slime seems to grow slowly but it is now covering one rock and started to spread on another.

Why is this happening? Is there anything I should do differently to prevent it?

Green Film??
Whats your flow in the tank? Detritus builds up in dead areas and can start the Cyano cycle. More flow in the spot should clear it out.
