No way will a clam shell affect your water chemistry. Clam shells are mostly calcium carbonate.

Great thanks for the answer. It was outside and a little dirty. Other than rinsing it off, is there any other thongs i should do.

OK, that changes the answer a bit.....the shell can absorb chemicals from it's environment. Can you be a bit more specific on "outside".

I would not advise adding it to your tank, you have no way to know what chemicals like nitrate and phosphate (common garden fertilizer) and pesticides could be in the soil.

Try giving it an acid soak before use to strip off the outer layer.
