I have a small crab (1/2' Gorilla?) that I am trying to catch but he won't cooperate. I have tried the bottle trap and even fishing line w some shrimp tied to it. He is hiding inside a piece of rock that is attached to a Zooanthid. Right now, the Zoo is in my Coral QT and I plan to transfer it into my DT in April. If worse comes to worse, I plan on treating the zooanthid w Revive before I transfer to the DT. I am only doing this to the zooanthid, not the other corals, simply to try and get rid of the crab. Will Revive kill the crab and will it hurt the Zooanthid to treat it w Revive twice within a 72 day period? Any other ideas would be appreciated. BTW, I did try taking the zoo/rock out of the QT and poking all the holes to try and stab the critter, but he is just to far in there.

Thanks
Steve

I haven’t used revive but I know dipping my corals in a strong iodine solution doesn’t harm them at all but everything else that’s alive on it will die. From bristleworms to bryopsis to bubble algae, it takes care of it all.

I think a longer dip with slightly higher concentration would be most effective.
I can’t say 100% that it will work.

Do you know the concentration you use for that?

I use a good amount. I will put iodine in until the water is a red-brown color but you can still easily see all the corals. I let them soak for 5-10 minutes and have never lost a coral or even had one close up for extended periods of time after doing this.

Thanks! I’ve only really used iodine as a disinfectant in low concentration.

I use revive and it should kill the crab. Your zoas should be fine. When I would get bad algae on a zoa plug I would use hydrogen peroxide dip and sometimes do it several times in a week and had no problems. Good luck on getting rid of the crabs
