Which wrasse is reef safe, hardiest for beginner. I will QT in 20 gallon tank with HOB, heater but no sand. Will it be ok without sand?
After 2 months will move him to my DT-120 gallon with sands and with 9 established fishes (mature clown, Tomini, flame angel, yellow tang and 5 yt damsels). The only bully currently is the flame angel, but he picks on everyone so it doesn't stress out any single fish.
Looking colorful one but reasonable price. Red will be best or yellow

Thanks

If you want a wrasse that dose use sand. Use a shallow rubber made or Pyrex brownie pan filled with Sand for QT.

Six lines are hardy and easy but sometimes they can be a terror to other fish. My first one 15 years ago was peaceful the one I have now is a

thanks Bdog, I heard the same abt 6 line, I like the flasher type

McCoskers or Carpenters wrasse, nice color, usually one of the less expensive flasher/fairy wrasse.

Yellow fin flasher. A little less common the McCoskers and Carpenters but equally hardy and are just as colorful (or more so IMO). Their anal fin will give you a little bit of the yellow. When they flash it's really stunning.

Apologize for the poor picture. He hardly ever is still. This was in QT.

with Amphipods only coming out when the lights off and usually my fishes are hiding when the lights is off, how does wrasse eating the amphipods, will they hunt them throughout the day or wait until they come out at night. Just curious and would like to keep my amphipods population somewhat in check, have tons of them now.
Thanks in advance

They are natural predators during the day. For every one copepod or amphipod you see there are 100s more. They can all hide during the day but the wrasses can still find them. It is good to have a healthy pod population for fish like wrasses. I used to setup a rubble bed with @1" rocks, didn't have a sump, and then cover it with a strawberry basket to keep the wrasses out but large enough for my pipefish to get into to feed. Not sure if you have a place where you can hide one of these in your DT so it doesn't stick out or not but it helps keep a healthy pod population. Of course, if you have a sump just put the rubble rock in it and you don't have to worry about. I also fed phytoplankton to my tank 1x week for pod's to eat. If there is a food source, they will continue reproducing like rabbits:)
