Wrasse Suggestions

I'm looking to add a wrasse for 40g rimless tank. I need something that isn't going to get too big, isn't real skiddish and will get along with my 2 black clowns and 3 Kupang damsels. To complicate it even further, I want a pair of them. Anyone have any suggestions?

i have not seen many wrasses paired, however you can find some flashers, and i think the McCoskers you can usually find male to female dimorphism which doesnt meant theyll mate but they are much less likely to kill each other. the big thing is that they will tolerate the other sex, over time they may pair up and mate. plus i think they are a prettier fish (body type) than normal wrasses i.e. mystery, sixline, lunar (many wrasses are not reef friendly so be careful)

Look at the blue flasher wrasse (Paracheilinus cyaneus). I have four of them in my 68 gallon cube with my clowns and it is great to watch them flash at each other and show off.

I really want the pygmy pink streaked, but I can't ever find them locally, only from LA. I do like the McCosker's, and I'll have to look into the Blue Flasher's.

The only type of wrasses which fit your criteria (especially the tank size) are flasher wrasses.

If you stalk Diver's Den, you'll eventually be able to nab a pair of some flasher species.

yes i would stick to flasher and some fairy wrasse for that size tank and i would not add more than 2 tops. they are hunters and will hunt till the food supply is gone. make sure they are eating prepared foods. my yellow corris eats anythign from pods, to little serpernt starfish , to small snails. if it fits he eats it!

^ Unfortunately, a 40gal tank is not big enough for fairy (Cirrhilabrus) wrasses. A borderline exception might be do-able for lubbocki or a similar Cirrhilabrus species which does not exceed a max size of 3".

Unlike your Yellow Coris Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus), Wrasses in the genus Paracheilinus (flasher wrasses and genus Cirrhilabrus (fairy wrasses) are not hunters. :smile:

does your tank have a lid if not i would stay away from fairy wrasses and similar wrasses maybe a blue leapord wrasse or a small female flame wrasse if u have a lid
