I'm not sure what it is but when I turned my lights onto white only the extent of their growth became clear. Should I get to scrubbing and other aggressive forms of removal like blackout? Is this the dreaded dinoflagellate? I just vacuumed the sand bed last night and it's already covered again

Looks more like diatoms to me, your tank looks rather new- is that the case?

If so then this is just part of the tank maturing and it will typically one day just disappear or if you clear it up and it doesn't comeback thats also a good sign but trying to remove it now is most likely just going to make extra work for yourself.

Again this is assuming tis diatoms, maybe lets some other chime in to be sure.

Yes, it's been up for 2 months now. I'm on high alert for Dinos, last thing I want is my few residents getting killed by red tide poison. Are diatoms harmful and can they be eaten by CUC?

That looks like diatoms to me as well. Is it kind of powdery and filmy, or is it stringy? Assuming that it’s diatoms, it’s not harmful, and it’s a waste of time to clean it up. Pods like it and if you really want it gone, trochu snails eat it.
