i just bought some zoas they didn't open up and they look too small to me,they r of the size of a small button...is this the normal size or r they not open completely ...this question may seem dumb..I'm new to the hobby...any help would be appreciated

is that size when closed?... pix would help but size of a small button is pretty big, mine r size of nail head when open. oh and there r no dumb questions, we all started from the beginning.

Radioactive dragon eyes (really common, different shades of green one) are really small, like 1/4". There are some big palys, like 1/2 - 5/8". Somewhere in between (3/8" maybe?) seems to be common.

Zoa sizes vary a great deal between varieties. Pictures would greatly help. I've never had zoas exhibit a problem by being smaller than normal.

like others have said diff species come in diff sizes. In ur case they r open on the center/right side of rock (when open they look like flowers & flat) whereas the lower left zoas r closed (when closed they look like beads). too much flow will cause zoas to remain closed, however u mentioned these r recent additions. I'd leave them alone for now and give it time to acclimate. If rest doesnt open at that location, try moving rock to new location and leave it there for a week to see how zoas like it.

Okay..got it....
The ones which r open do they seem to be of the normal size?? If measured they r probably less than 0.5cm in diameter I guess..is tat normal?

From the pictures you have shown...they look to be a reasonable size for Zoas. They look really good.

Again, "normal" size for zoa depends on species, so really can't answer whether ur's is normal size. However it's open n healthy looking.

0.5 cm = about 1/4". That's probably normal.
Okay..I'm new to corals so I haven't seen zoas...n when I picked them up from the LFS they were already closed so when they opened up I thought they were really small...bcz they seem pretty big in videos...thanks for the help...now they seemed to have opened up better
