Hi all,

This was sold to me as a “mini” black cucumber; the mouth seems strange though. Anyone know what this is, and if it’s reef safe? Main goal is to turn over my sand.

Almost looks like more like a worm than a cucumber.

I’m holding releasing it before I’ve got a firm ID.

Thanks,

Adam

Likely Holothuria atra. aka black sea cucumber. Very common tropical species. This species is said to be pretty toxic. I'd use caution adding it and run carbon.

It is holothuria and is one that get sticky and will cover itself in sand and can grow to about 7". A concern I have with these in a reef setting is that they prefer cooler temps often not compatible with many reef species but many black cukes will adapt once acclimated to typical 77-79 deg temps.

Thanks all. Decided against adding it; on the weekend, I will take it to the local fish market and trade it for something (we don’t really have standalone LFS’s in Shanghai, we have sort of fish malls with many small LFS’s).

Might be a good fit for someone’s tank but I have a bad feeling about it going into mine for some reason. I already have one small cucumber in my 60 cube anyway.

If anyone lives in SH or neighboring cities and would like it let me know; happy to give it free to a good home.

Thank you all again.

Adam
