Yeah ummmmmm. Asking for a friend about how to correct this. This tank is new to him and "he" tested two times with Salifert kits. How should "he" correct this? Again, this tank came with his new house and he wants to make it work. "He" is currently dosing NOPOX to help with No3 and PO4 levels. "He" thanks you all in advance. "He" also has a dosing setup with 3 heads currently available.

He had 0 dkh and 0 calcium? I really doubt thats possible unless its freshwater.
"He" tested 2 times and both tests on NEW salifert test kits did nbot show on the scale after the mak amount of drops added. Last water change was 200 gallons of Reef Crystals 3 weeks ago.

Why cant "he" edit his post when he makes spelling errors?

Okay so I errrr... I mean He had his Wife re-fun the test with him and apparently he had one too many beverages while Skiing today and misread the testing results. Ca is 500 (Max) and KH is 15.7, Alk is 5.59. How should he proceed. He is buying the Hanna stuff Monday.

Your using the test kits wrong, it's not even possible to have 0 on either of these tests.
Yes, I had too many beverages while skiing today.

So you gave 2 values for Alk, you only need to use one or the other. You shouldn't do anything and let the alk and Calcium drop to a standard level. Alk should be 7-11 DKH and calcium 400-475

Just read it off the Salifert chart- It gives both values. With the they both drop naturally or do I need to take other measures?

The values are both alkalinity, they are just expressed in different units, kind of like miles vs kilometres. The standard way of expressing alkalinity around here is dKH though so yours is 15.7, so in the future it'll be slightly less confusing for some people to express it just one way.

These values will fall naturally as the tank matures (don't break out that doser just yet), and if you don't have corals yet, seeing as this is a new thing to you, it'll be best to take it slow and let them fall and test periodically while researching exactly how best to set up your system for what you'd really like to achieve.

If you have corals in the tank it will get used up naturally, and would be the preferred method since corals react poorly to fast changes in ALK. If not there really is no need to worry about the values until you have corals.

The tank has all softies now. It is approximately 10 years old but was poorly maintained by the previous homeowner. I have spent a fortune upgrading it of late as my 2 year old loves to look at the fish and coral. Particularly the 18" Vlamingi Tang and the 10" Porcupine Puffer. They both love to interact with him at the glass. The better half gave me permission to upgrade and make it a show tank so here we go....

Yes... Guilty. It's my tank. I lost a Gorgeous Harlequin Tusk a week after I moved in and have been trying very hard to learn in a hurry. The fish were my primary concern originally but now that I've got that side basically stabilized I can focus on the corals. I am making large strides but this is the first tank I have ever had... I have a 4500 gallon Koi pond at this house too but that has been easier.
