Is feeding once a day sufficient for a reef tank? I have two small clowns, a tailspot, goby/pistol pair, cleaner shrimp, and peppermint shrimp.

Not for my reef tank - I have Wrasses. Some fish require more frequent feeding. Wrasses, Dragonette, Gobies, Blennies, etc can have higher metabolisms and need to eat more frequently. I run tow autofeeders twice daily so I get a minimum of 4 feedings. Everything stays fat and happy.

As long as the fish seem happy it’s fine. Some people feed a few times a week. There should be copepods, amphipods and algae in there for them to munch on in between meals.

Depending on which fishes you have, yes.

Me also, they are even on the glass in the corners of the tank with lights on.

I have two Halichoeres Wrasses, 2 Springeri Damsels, and a Twin spot Goby so I rarely see copepods in my tank.

Yeah, the Reef Nutrition is all fresh in a bottle- I think I’m overthinking this

Don't know what this is but I feed 8 or 9 different kinds of food.
I will take seafood, whether it be scallops, shrimp etc chop it and freeze it in cubes.
You can add whatever to it, nori, green peas, eggs. Whatever.
I have a trigger so I feed 2 sometimes 3 times a day.
Trouble if I don't.

Ya they should be in there. Are you dosing phyto regularly? It took a long time to build up my pod population, I added more every 3-4 months.

I’ve added the eco and galaxy pods a couple times since starting the tank and feed Ocean Magik phyto daily - All from Algae Barn. It was one of the key contributors to getting very little ugly stage. I basically followed the BRS 52 weeks startup philosophy to the letter. Other then not having a skimmer or ozone machines. I do run a UV sterilizer though.

I hesitate to even post this cause I’m a total newb; but as a newb, I do follow the thought leaders in the industry and back up what I think I learned coming here to R2R, where there are some well/known very respected reefers who are here to help. In fact we’ve got a few on this very thread

Here are two videos I found most helpful from a learning perspective- obviously way past my scale or need, but in the WWC recipe discussion, someone asked scale for a small tank so you can figure out what you need based on it.

I don’t think you need to, I’ve read many threads of people with a healthy population of copepods that came in as hitchhikers and they don’t dose phytoplankton.

That has been driving me nuts for a long time.

Ok I have never used a sump I have watched lots of videos about them and just want to make sure I understand right. I fill up the tank and the sump all the way then I turn the pump on and then once the water has time to spread out I can take a marker or something and place a mark at the water level in the compartment with the pump and then as long as I don't top it off past that mark I won't have to worry about flooding if I lose power. Right?
