00W's AIO Smorgasbord

Our very first reef tank was an 8g. There was a staghorn skeleton that encrusted with gsp. I miss that. The new tank will have lots of skeletons to make natural overhangs and homes for my little guys.
This is very interesting you must have read my mind I was wondering how everyone got into this hobby.
Can be short or long I'll listen.
I know @kevgib67 was mystified with Billy Idol and that's why he got back in it but how bout everyone else?

We started because my son begged. We started with a very small tank and then ended up with 2 biocubes. Now working on a 93g cube that got really pushed back. First with Dad and then my mother in law needed care until she passed away. So now, I'm getting excited again for our dream tank to get set up. I'll always have questions. I'll always be learning.

I came home for my buddy's wedding when I was in college and he had a 100 gallon, 4 fish, under gravel filter, crushed coral the works.
I was hooked and when I got back to school I borrowed (without returning) a 30 gallon hex. Got salt, coral one fish and used a clamp on light.
It didn't work but that was 1988 (yes I'm old) and I moved on from there to a 50, a Sanders piccolo skimmer, too many fish, read all the books.
My biggest tank was a 100 that I built everything for now have my 75.
Was a single dad for years but always had a tank.
I changed my philosophy in the mid 90s and went bare bottom Berlin style and I do it the same way now mostly.
I do have some more complicated stuff I don't understand but we'll save that for later cuz I need help with it from you guys.

My uncle had a 400-gallon reef tank many years ago. When I was little I thought that was the coolest thing ever and I still do.
I had always talked about getting a fish tank years ago but it never happened. My dad said if we got wood floors upstairs and I good grades they would get me a fish tank.
So at the beginning of 2023, we did some major house renovations on the house and my birthday was coming up. Me and my dad went to the LFS to order the tank and 1 month later it arrived right on my birthday. (May 17)
It's probably the best gift I have ever gotten and has changed my life a lot. I love the hobby so much and I hope to get a bigger tank in the future haha.

I think you are doing really well with your first tank and I love your enthusiasm and thoughtfulness.
I also think you're a pretty cool kid to be hanging out with us old guys.
You fit right in.

I have no plans to stop anytime soon!
Yellow tangs live up to 40 years so I've got a ways to go.
Don't know about triggers. Hum.....

Your Yellow tang is in a 75?

I have read enough to confuse myself. I only know what I have tried. I have had failures. Lots. I've also had lots of successes.
Do you have any pictures of your tank (s)?

Nothing super recent. Just haven't added anything in a while. Been trying to just wait for the new tank.
You are the phone wiz so I'll take anything.

Let's see what you got.

He had a badly split top fin and HLLE not terrible but noticeable.
He was the size of a quarter.
Super shy still is.
When I first put him in he went right to the bottom nose first. Must have stayed there for an hour though he was dead.

That is tiny. Did you find him at Petco?
Does he still have HLLE?
Wild caught?

Yes.
I got him at petco you remembered!
He is perfectly fine now and looks beautiful not a spot on him.
Large, shy, picky eater, very defensive.
Won't eat algae sheets but if I soak it after breaking it into pieces he'll eat a little.
High maintenance lol but a great fish.

Almost forgot to tell yall I am getting some corals from a local reefer.
He is dropping off the zoas circled in white tomorrow.
All of that for $280 what do you think?
