00W's AIO Smorgasbord

Ugh just got a notice from the seller that there is a delay with FedEx and my fish might not arrive until tomorrow. They said they should be fine because they ship them with enough oxygen and water for 3 days and for me to drip acclimate them as soon as I get them but I don't know if that's wise since I have read that can kill them.
I know one vendor, I believe Biota but don’t trust me on that, recommends float for temp acclimation and plop in the tank to decrease ammonia exposure. I’m not sure the effect of large salinity changes but I once read the fish can be very resistant. In shallow reefs during storms with heavy rains and runoff from land there can be large salinity changes. Don’t trust me I’m relying on my memory and I I grew up doing old math while I was going to public schools. Do your homework, it’s going to work out Amanda.

I never drop acclimate anything that goes into my tank. I think when you open the bag, there’s a huge ammonia spike and it’s not worth it. But I’m not 100% sure

Yup you're 100% correct this is why we recommend only float and drop for our fish but every retailer is different.

During transit Ammonia builds up in the packing water but that combined with a lower pH from the fish respiring to lower the toxic form of ammonia. Once you open the bag an begin dripping the oxygen differential as well as the higher pH in your water converts that non-toxic ammonia into a toxic form which can quickly harm gills.

We also add an ammonia binder for transit which does not work if diluted through drip acclimation.

Double check with the company that shipped though, we've had ton of shipments get delayed over the years and even had fish last 7 days in transit.

Thank you I hope I am as lucky and they all make it. I know when I have ordered discus for my freshwater tank I was told to not drip acclimate for this reason.

I bought a yellow tang from you a few months ago and he’s doing great. I’m impressed with the yellow tangs from biota. Mine is super yellow and looks healthy.

Awesome! Thank you for supporting us. They look amazing and well fed in your tank

Hi everyone corals arrived but no pictures yet because they are angry I will get pictures tomorrow. The pulsating Xenia did not travel well and is looking really deflated but hopefully since it's a tough coral it will recover.

I was in a team building meeting all day and they had breakfast and lunch catered. For lunch we had fried chicken and pulled pork, Cole slaw and baked beans and rolls with either cherry cobbler or apple with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious!

Dang Walker I got you mixed up with the picture Luis posted of him and his family. Do you have a son and wife? It’s none of my business though.
