00W's AIO Smorgasbord

Ya, I heard there aren’t any American fan clubs there.
Already french people are not smiling (even worst in Paris) so if they have to make an effort with english... So many times I met french people thinking that when they are abroad their french transform automatically in english by magic and don't understand why people can't get them :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

I'm fairly certain I'm dealing with Ostreopsis currently.
UV has knocked out ostreo for me twice, both times within a week. My UV was a bit oversized for the nanos though.

It is all depend where he will be going. For food, bread, pastry it can be very good. But unfortunately France is quite unsafe, no weapon but still unsafe and a lot of people don't speak english.
Not much violent crime though, no? In Barcelona it was mostly pick pockets and theft that was the major issue. I always say, best defense against these things (apart from the obvious, don't carry valuables in plain sight), is to "walk with purpose".

I went to Madrid a year ago (Barcelona not since I was a student) metro was so much clean and safe compared to Paris. Yes mainly pick pockets or even upfront steal.

MB7, hang a piece of filter floss, and UV are what's working for me. Are you at 0 phosphates? If so, bump those up.
I am actually in the process of buying all of my testing equipment. I have a hannah salinity tester and was probably going with a hannah phosphate checker. Thanks for that advice. My nitrates seem to hover around 15 to 25 between water changes.

If that is the first algae to show up I would put my money on diatoms. They feed on silicates and are gone on their own when there is nothing left to eat. Adding copepods can speed up the process. Ya, I wouldn’t add a conch with a Halloween crab but you could add a sand sifting goby and nassarius snails to keep the sand turned over.
Thanks Kevin. I was really hoping for diatoms since I haven't seen the slimy bubbly attributes yet. I think my tank is about 3 months old and yes it's the first arrival of the uglies. I got 4 nassarius snails. One was eaten by my Halloweenhermit immediately, and i haven't seen the other 3 again. Copepods!!! Yes, how did I forget pods? Im shopping them now

Yes, first of the uglies are diatoms. I really didn’t do anything just let it run its course. @Dinkins Aquatic Gardens is excellent for copepods and phyto, they go above and beyond. You won’t be disappointed.

How old is the tank? What filtration/media are you using? Dry rock or live rock? And do you know nitrates and phosphates? Totally possibly you're just going through diatoms. Keep an eye out for stringy bubbles.
My tank is 3 maybe 4 months old max. I use pura filter pads in two places. It's a sumpless AIO 40 gallon cube. I also have some ceramic biomedia that came with my tank, approx 30 or 35 lbs of live rock, 40 lbs fiji pink sand. I do 25% water changes biweekly. I see nitrates averaging around 20. I need a better nitrate tester and a phosphate tester. No stringy bubbles yet. I've had this going on for about 3 weeks maybe. Thanks for your willingness to help me.

Great, thank you Kevin! I definitely meant to ask for a source. I'm so glad I found this thread.

Welcome @kingranch2003 to the Smorgasbord, I haven't seen updates in your tank thread for a while, I hope everything goes well, about the gsp and cyphastrea on the back wall, I'm sure they will do very well
Welcome Kingsranch!

You have entered one of the best threads/groups in R2R!

As a very new reefer myself, it was critical to find people you could ask any “dumb” question to and get quality feedback (with varied ways of going about it); and never feel silly. Add that these are genuinely good, good people who care about you and it has become a sanctuary for many (thanks goes to Joel who started it all).

And the newbies really make an effort to do research before bombarding the thread with questions- it really hopes our group of veterans narrow down their responses- you’ve got over 50 yrs of experience with just with some of them

You are truly one of us! My last post was before I saw this. Just let me know when you want to drive over and pick up some birdnest frags!
That is a very tempting drive, Kevin. I definitely want to work my way up to some beautiful birdsnest colonies for the top of my rockwork. Also, I'm interested in those walleye/bass you showed me pics of!!

Good night peeps!
