Good to know. If you count the initial diatoms then I’m in my second round of uglies. Just trying to better understand what I should expect.

My tank is an AIO so not an exact comparison but I don’t have a skimmer or fuge so similar concerns.

You’re doing great / I notice you have followed Kev’s startup philosophy and it has served you well.

I 100% believe and do what Ryan at BRS said, “Find one experienced reefer who shows his success AND failure” stick hard to their methodology and be patient”

I always felt algae was a good thing, especially green algae.
Some algeas not so much but when it would turn from brown to green or just green I got excited.
Still have lots of green I just let hang out.

Yeah, I actually don’t mind mine. Having more diatoms but the rest is mostly green. No slimes or long stuff ha. I much prefer my current state to the sterile dead rock I had at the start.

I was actually quite discouraged with the hobby in January when I reposted my showcase and Kat Kev and Parker started posting we all started talking and everyone started chiming in.
I felt like I had friends, mentors, inspiration again.
I've had no one close in the hobby in years. No one to ask questions of and no one to model after.
Now I do.
You guys are all my inspiration and why my tank looks as good as it does.
You guys are all so strong and brave-true heroes.

I didn’t have your group of mentors when I started first tank but I did jump right in and made every mistake- lol

I certainly jumped in on this build, but at least with a knowledge base I learned from.

And now I have my group of veteran reefers who I call friends - this group.

And as far as jumping into things- I still do cannonballs in the pool!!

Also, you’ll never get used to people coming to your house and asking about all the plants in your tank. You’ll explain they are coral which are animals not plants. They will look at you with a blank look on their face.

We just don't let people come over.

Thank you Jennifer for the clarification in Bayer. Saw the name so many times but didn't look at it.
The coral had the overall shape of a hammer but the tip didn't look like as a jelly bean. Some banana torches are quite similar, thank you Tim for the correction.
I am also going through an ugly phase since few days. Hopefully it won't become crazy.
I saw a good deal on Hanna alk and calcium only. Do you think it worth it? I didn't had time to look at them, I think calcium is not easy to use. Do you advise to go ahead? I am using salifert.

Never used the calcium test but heard it's a bit hard to use.
I use hanna for phosphate, nitrate and alk.
Would never use anything else now.
Well worth it in my book.

Does hair algae grow more from white or blue light?

As you write I was going to reduce my white but it seems it grows also on blue.

Does hair algae grow more from white or blue light?

Brown/green more to do with light, either white or blue but more on the white side.
Hair algae has more to do with nutrients, phosphate especially.
If phosphate test reads OK or not extreme at least, phosphate will be built up in the algae itself and in the rock work.
