Pods are one go and phyto is kept in the fridge and dosed. I typically order the pods and phyto together and when I’m out of phyto I order just phyto and when that is out phyto and pods and repeat.

I'm ordering mine when I get off. I've done a little research and can't believe I haven't been doing this already. The phyto alone is great for the system. I should've probably already been dosing a little phyto for my corals. There's so much to learn lol

Good for your filter feeders as well like my large feather duster worm.

@kingranch2003 I’ve done daily Phyto from the beginning- great beating out diatoms, Dino’s, etc. feeds my pods, smol fish, etc.

These videos really broke down the science for me.




I have used the following vendors for both Phyto and pods. All very good.

Reef Nutrition; Algae Barn; TSA, and Dinkins.

I base it a lot on deals/specials, and when I need it.

My main vendor is Reef Nutrition as they provide 90% of my food products to fish and I can get from LFS without shipping cost.

Any idea how long phyto is good for? Does it have an expiration date? I ordered the great big bottles and the last one smelled bad before I finished it off.

I am actually in the process of buying all of my testing equipment. I have a hannah salinity tester and was probably going with a hannah phosphate checker. Thanks for that advice. My nitrates seem to hover around 15 to 25 between water changes.

Go with the ULR Phosphates from Hanna

As a very new reefer myself, it was critical to find people you could ask any “dumb” question to and get quality feedback (with varied ways of going about it); and never feel silly. Add that these are genuinely good, good people who care about you and it has become a sanctuary for many (thanks goes to Joel who started it all).

It’s different per vendor - all of them cite longevity, expiration, amount per tank, on directions and websites. At least the vendors we are all talking about.
