So I left for work at 7am and the power has been out for almost 4 hours. There's no back up power at my house and my tank is just sitting there motionless. No lights, filter, power head, or heater. 15 gallon tank is left for dead. Or atleast I hope it isn't. If the powers out what would you do?

I would find a battery powered pump to help move at least a little water and also stir the tank every 30-60min to help move water more a bit more and help gas exchange.

Yeah that's what I was gonna do, I'm at work though! Until I get home all I can do is hope nothing bad is happening

Those battery operated air pumps are good to have. Not expensive either. Do you have a fish store nearby? I'm not sure the big box stores have them, but the independents often do. I think fishing tackle shops have them sometimes as well for bait tanks.

I keep a couple of UPS's that I got from local electronics store plugged in. Not perfect as they don't last days on end, but I can plug a power head head in for 5-6 hours and also a heater if need be. Also have an airstone and pump as well that I run. Just a note, the cheap UPS's won't last but a couple of hours at most (if you need to heat the tank). I keep three as I try and run just the basics to maintain the tank (air, heat if necessary, and 1 PH).

I've been out before for a few hours and about every 30 mins took a large spoon and stirred the tank in a circular motion. But again I was at home at the time the power went out. Best to invest in a battery powered air pump or a decent sized UPS. The battery powered air pump won't do any good if your not home when the power goes out though but the UPS will kick in when the power is cut. Just be sure to put at least 1 powerhead on the UPS. Been meaning to pick one up myself. Hope your tank isn't too bad when you get home.

Update! The tank was unsupervised without electricity for 4 and a half hours. I'm stirring the tank every 15-20 mins
