A topic revisited . FOWL

Some years ago (1990's) I use to keep a FOWL at 1.019 - was thought to make "easier " for fish osmolarity (or that's the explanation I got.) The fish tolerated this just fine. I noticed Aquaforest recommends 1.022 for fish on their salt mix.

I could never find any data based evidence to confirm this assertion. We also know now that ich and other pests can live at this SG. But the "experts" said to do it - so I did.

Does anybody do this anymore?

I run my FOWLR at 1.020 just for the sake I use a lot doing large water changes with big sloppy eaters. Im not sure how true it is that lower salinity is better for the fish and certainly don’t believe lower salinity keeps parasites at bay.

thanks for the good info, never thought about a cost savings angle.

Was just curious., thanks again.
