I drilled this so that it would screw into the container. Loaded with plumbing tape and screwed tight. Will I need a gasket? Of so where would I find one locally? Should I just leave it? Think it will leak the way I have it after Time?

Plummers tape won’t do anything to seal that. You need a gasket. If you don’t have a gasket I would try to find one at Ace or truevalue. Worse case seal it with plumbers putty or silicone.

Also I would reverse it. Put the nut side on the outside of the barrel.

I don’t believe those bulkheads are meant to be water tight... at least that’s what I was told from BRS when I asked about them. you will probably have to DIY something like just siliconing it in place

Only one issues with silicone and Brute trash cans, it doesn't stick. Ask me how I know, and how I ended up with 40G of water on my floor. lol

You can always epoxy it in place if the silicone doesn't stick and you can't find a suitable gasket.

Provided you never have to remove the bulkhead - I've never had epoxy fail me.

You will definitely need a gasket, or some way to seal the flange side. I made one out of some silicone sheet that I had laying around, but silicone sealant will work fine also. It doesn't have to 'stick' to the can, it just acts as a gasket once cured. Just put silicone under the flange, install the bulkhead but don't tighten it down fully. Let the silicone completely cure and then fully tighten down the nut. Voila …. gasket. Putting Teflon tape on the bulkhead threads does nothing …. just increases the chances of breaking the nut.

I drilled a hole in a 5 gallon bucket and used a similar fitting. I put a small amount of silicone around the part that went through the hole before I screwed on the backside.
I did this probably 8-9 years ago and it's still water tight.

I may go buy some gasket making material. I actually threaded into the brute. Better safe than sorry. Off to Lowe's.

I've done this exact thing- in my case I used waterweld putty and it held for a few years. If you can find something to act as a gasket, that might be preferable if you don't want it to be permanent.

That should do. I have a set of hole punches but none big enough so i used a scrap of 3/4" copper pipe and a hammer to cut the hole, then just trim around the edge of the flange. Not pretty but works.
