My new Innovative Marine 100 EXT is a bean style drain that is 1", however, the sump I want to get has a 1.5" drain bulkhead (Fiji Cube 36"), does anyone know if I do a conversion right before the water hits the sump if it will create a lot of noise?

I think the noise would be there regardless, weather it crashes from one size or the other, IMO

You could get a 1"to 1.5" rubber adapter with pipe clamps; that way if it's too noisy you can easily remove it and hard plumb it some other way. The main thing affecting the noise will be the flow rate from your display (adjustable with valve) and your return pump speed.

I don’t think the question was how to reduce the fittings, but, would the reduction cause excessive noise.

I would keep it at 1" until the sump, and then convert it to 1.5". The sump doesn't care of the return, only the tank does. ;)

How big is the actual tank?

I have a 225 gal tank and use 1.5 in drains, and that is slightly oversized. I use a MM 2400 External overflow with 1.5" drains, using a Bean Animal setup and had to restrict it via the Main Gate Valve.

Yes! And more important than anything else is:

USE A GATE VALVE

NOT ANOTHER TYPE
I stubbornly learned this the hard way

That's the funny thing, I had friend walk in and look at my tank, AND, the first thing that he said was, MAN, your tank is quite!!! That was on my 120 gal tank, and my 225 gal tank is even more quite that the 120. I try to keep a 4x turnover in my sump.
