1 Durso noisy & more flow than 2nd durso

Just got my sump/tank going. 125g with dual overflows, 1 durso each overflow and 1 return each. The right side, with the longest travel is quiet and barely bubbling in the sump. The left is like an overactive burbling machine. Lots of bubbles and flow and noisy. I suspect the right side is correct as it is a more gentle flow. The left side is a drain on steroids How do I quiet it/calm it.

I have the return pump at around 35-45 % power. The tops of the dursos are approx same heighth in overflows, the two holes in sides of top below water

Hard to say. It can be quite difficult to exactly balance dual dursos like this - one side often takes in more water than the other. In your case neither is 'correct'; the calm side isn't taking enough water, the chaotic side is taking too much. It could be that the tank is very slightly out of level, and one overflow is getting more water than the other; or it could be that the longer drain length on one is adding more friction ..... Does each overflow seem to observably taking in the same volume of water?

I agree. its most likely that your aquarium is not level. Put a level on it and confirm. Been there and done that. You will want to level the aquarium as best as you can. If its too late for that, then you will want to adjust the airflow different in the high volume side to compensate for the flow.

@mtraylor the tank is pretty level--front is, sides are very slightly off, very slightly. Do I need more air in or less in the chaotic side. Will mess around with them today

Not clear to me how airflow is going to do much, unless the calmer durso has a blocked vent. You may have to play around a bit with the height of the pipes. Slightly raising the top of the chaotic one should mean more water through the calmer one.

No clogged vents. Will try to raise chaotic and lower calm.

If more water is pulling on one side that side needs more air flow also. If will calm the burbing noise.

Okay, that seems to have evened them out. Right side down almost as far as it would go, left almost as high as it can go. Still some gurgling sounds. Will play with air for those. I can only cut air, not increase as these are purchased stands. To quiet, is it more air or less

I just drilled out the hole bigger. You can just go size to size and get bigger until what you need is reached.

Air flow is definitely your problem! The one with the water just above the durso opening has too much air , which is causing to much water intake and your loud noise , try putting a airline tubes on both with a small valve

That is odd though. Have you checked the 'calmer' one for some kind of obstruction?

brand new, just set it up so can't be any obstructions. I've got the flows pretty much equal. Now for the noise. Will see if hubby will drill bigger

From what I read, you're not supposed to have a valve on a drain. I've got twin overflows, each has a durso drain and return, so I have 2 durso drains total and each should be equal.

If you are doing a bean or a Herbie you need a gate valve. Durso is just gravity fed. If not enough air gets in it starts to go full siphone and then it has to break and gurgles. With more air it won't go to full siphone and will quite down. It gets a good air /water mixture.
With the herbie and bean you want full siphone and it gets tuned down with a gate valve. But you also have the emergency drain with those styles.

In part, the answer is that a durso drain will handle far less flow than the tank manufacturers claim. When I ran dual durso drains, l couldn't get much more than 350 gph before they started to flush. Now that I run a ghost style single bean ...... 1,500 gph without working up a sweat and glorious silence.

Maybe I’m wrong but I’ve always been under the impression if it’s gurgling it’s draining faster than the water is returning.... if you have a dc pump why not pick up the speed and try to keep up with the drains?
