The fact that you still have water in the tank is a great start!

Honestly, everyone goes through the process differently. Some seem to latch on quickly and somehow end up with crazy-beautiful tanks seemingly overnight while most of us struggle.

A reef tank is a journey. The journey can be difficult at times - but the most important thing is to always enjoy the tank. After all - that is the reason we have them.

So the answer to your question: Only YOU can provide an answer! As long as YOU are happy with the progress - and if YOU are enjoying the journey - then the tank is doing great!

Well you've survived your first year and your tank is now a mature tank...everyone goes at their own pace ..but slower is best ....and each has their own journey...I'm 5 years in and on my 3rd tank ....and I nearly quit twice this year because of dinos ...but the rewards out weigh the lows ...so keep going there will be highs and lows ...your journey has just begun ....:D

You are growing coral. That in itself means your tank is maturing. You have no MAJOR issues that would call for immediate action. I think your tank looks great. Can you tweek it? Yes, but slowly. Time to adjust your mindset and research from the newbie standpoint to the dedicated reefer. Reef on!

Yes your tank is fine. You set up your tank for your eyes enjoyment don't be worried about others opinion. One year down many more to come just like the dishes and corals you add to your tank

Just hit 1 year mark on my first tank this month. Here’s my tank shot

Lots of stress along the way and lots of money lost from mistakes

I took it slow and my tank does not have much coral as you can tell but with fish I felt very comfortable having kept freshwater fish. Adding more corals and achieving better growth are this years goals along with beating back some of that hair algae.

I was waiting until I could beat the remaining algae back to add more corals but should I load it up now will the competition help slow the algae I could easily go and pick up $600 of coral right now...

Nice to have that budget but don't load it at one time. Maybe spend $100 on a few frags and see how it goes. Then repeat :) Get some confidence and then get more strategic with coral purchases. Algae will usually clear over time with good params and a cuc.
