Hello, does a 10 gallon DIY sump would be sufficient on a bare bottom reef tank 40 gallon? I'm only using an HOB at the moment and was thinking about doing this. Would that be sufficient?

I'm currently setting up a 20l with divider for 2 breeding clown pairs. Going to use a 10 for sump. I think as long as your skimmer fits and it holds enough water when pumps are off.

I have an air driven protein skimmer at the moment but will upgrade to a hang on later. how many baffles do you have?

+1

I'm going to modify my response to say that as long as it holds the overflow and whatever equipment you want it should work.

Also, what's your purpose is another thing to consider. Are you trying to hide equipment, add much more water volume, maybe you just want a refugium for a draggonet. All things to consider

This is the kit I bought. This will be my first sump build.
