Ive seen alot of coral frags on here the past few days since ive joined and I am just wondering what the small disc shaped things are that they have been planted in ?

That disc shaped thing is a plate coral.

Frag plugs are usually made out of ceramic discs with a small stem on the bottom like these:
They make mounting a bit easier, they are easy to epoxy or glue to your rockwork

Do they just grow over them and you do t notice them eventually or do you need to remove them after a while ?

Got myself a new toy and started playing. It's a older Canon DSLR :bigsmile:. Right now I only have the kit lens for it so the pics aren't great but I'm working on figuring it out. So here's a few new pics, more to come as I get things figured out.

Thanks guys I'm really liking the way the tank is turning out. Having a bit of an hair algea outbreak that I'm trying to get under control. I think I'm going to try some phosban or Rowaphos and see if it helps. If it doesn't, I'm going to try to figure out a way to get an algea scrubber hooked up.

I'm thinking of getting some new lights this week. I want to upgrade to a 24" 4 bulb t5ho fixture because I can't seem to find the color combination I want for my 18 watt bulb fixture. The 18 watt bulbs only come in 10k and actinic. I want to do a nice combo of ATI bulbs. Just not sure how my corals are going to like an additional 32 watts of light.

Diamond, your corals will love the added wattage but you will need to acclimate them. You can put multiple screens over the top of the aquarium and keep removing them until the corals have adjusted.

Thanks Dawn I've done that before going from pc lights to metal halides and did it successfully. Guess I need to take a trip to the store for some screen material.

Hey Diamond, I installed my Eshopps nano overflow box today and it works like a charm. Its quiet and was easy to put together. The only tricky part is starting the syphon. I used airline tubing threaded up the U tube til I got to the curved part at the very top. Put it in where it goes and suck on it. The water that is in both chambers, ( which I had to fill) will go up both sides of the U tube until its full. The tricky part is retracting the airline tubing without taking the U tube out of the chambers with water in them. Eventually I got it out. I don't see any bubbles building up so I am not even going to use an aqualifter on this overflow. My other overflow has the U tube drilled with an aqualifter that always starts a syphon because bubbles would build up and I worried it could lose a syphon some time.

Very cool thanks for the heads up Dawn. I will probly be getting one next month, I really need to get my sump up and running to get my skimmer online but it's going to have to wait for the new lights.
