10 Most Coveted SPS?

What....most of these corals old and new are peddled by stores...not by hobbyists hording them. Trust me they want us to know these names. Problem with the new ones are they are usually one single wild colony kept by one store usually ....so that is what makes them limited.

I watch the SPS forums like on here and the other well known site are never see colony pics of most of the corals mentioned. Is it that they are so new to the scene that no one has grown them out and kept them colourful? To me acro's need to prove themselves and that takes time. Sure grab the newest hyped frag and you may have a long term winner....or you may have the opposite.

Also for a coral to become really well known it has to be propagated for some time. I guess for these reasons a lot of these names mean nothing to me even though Im always here in the SPS forums?
I somewhat agree with you. There are tons of newer, hyped pieces that seem to be must haves in the eyes of many already. When in reality who knows what they'll do long term.

I just got aefw and had to tear down a lot of my tank to put all my sps in a qt. I am trying to look at the experience as optimistic as possible. Now that all my sps has been taken out of my tank, i have the chance to start off a new collection. Most of my sps i will be keeping, but some ill be getting rid of once its free of fw's.
So, If you were to put a list together of 10 of the most coveted sps that even if you have the money you cant get what would it be?

Here's my list:
Tyree Blue Avatar
Tyree Pink dragontales (not look alike)
Tyree Mr. Pacman (not look alike)
Pink Panther
Tyree somewhere over the rainbow
Joes Rainbow Acro
Purple dragon eyes
Procorals rainbow stag
Procorals superman table?
Mother of pearl

... Its kinda late, i cant even think of anymore right now, ill be adding to the list though, so help me out! :)

Your list reads like a laundry list of the latest hyped corals & not really coveted. My only advise would be not to get caught up in the names & focus on colors. You don't want two corals with the same main colors or patterns..........they tend to cancel each other out in the tank.

A red table with blue tips is just that, a red table.............some name attached to it doesn't change anything.

I agree with that statement...some of these newer corals are going to be a risk on whether or not you can grow them out and get them looking great. What about what I have said do you not agree with then?

Well i actually have all these except for Procorals Rainbow Stag, superman Table, and Purple Eyes. None of these on the list have any of the same colors. The only ones to look similar are the Mr. Pacman and possibly the Purple Dragon Eyes. The three i dont have all are well known and known to keep their colors and look amazing. Also, the ones i have all look amazing as well and are known to keep their colors. The only one that i am unsure of is the Purple Dragon Eyes which by the picture on reeffarmers.com, it looks pretty awesome!

So, I do agree with you that you shouldn't go about getting the latest hyped corals, but the corals on my list are known to keep color and are beautiful. (Except for Purple Dragon Eyes, which i dont know much about)

that pertains to one of my corals that I ended up adding to a pack when it was just released - WT Dan's Loco Supremo. In the picture it has a purple hue. Its still growing from a frag for me, but it looks yellow with a greenish hue and white tips. Still no purple at all. But waiting to see how it turns out, it could be really cool which i think is pretty fun.

That's why it says my list and not your list. These threads are supposed to be fun is all I'm saying, why bring the name argument into it?

+1.

Names are just used to identify a coral or else you'd have no idea what corals people want when they are describing it as "I want the blue one with the green"

I think you are confused. The "larry jackson" is a tri-color type acro, more likely an A. valida or an A. nana. This thing is grows like a weed and I wouldn't consider it coveted by many.

I am not confused. My point was there are many purple monsters. I know exactly what the Larry Jackson purple monster is I used to know Larry pretty well before he pretty much dropped out of the hobby to travel and focus on his photography. You do not see Larry’s coral anymore because there are so few colonies out there and in my opinion should be more sought after, it's a piece of history from one of the greatest, nicest guys that was ever in this hobby and influenced and helped it greatly.

Anyone have a piece I would be interested in it.

H@rry has larry jackson's purple tipped acro available almost all the time. He got it from greg hiller back in the 90's i believe. There quite a few of us that have it here in the north alabama/middle tn area.

Typed from my phone because I have nothing better to do.

Yeah !! I love getting the new hottest hyped coral and seeing how they color up and grow yes some aren't proven in captivity yet but all corals came from the same place at one time and one colony has turned into hundreds with fraging! So I love the new releases and I've had some crap out on me but that's part of the game!

Guess I'm Old school... Not so much coveted but my fav 10...
Pink panther
Pink lemonade
Strawberry shortcake
Dustin's deep water
Red dragon
True Oregon tort
Pink jade
Blue matrix
Reef ready grape juice
Upscales microcladus....

Great list! I think the only one I'd throw out is the pink jade, and replace it with paletta pink tip.

Batt, any picutes of your tank and awesome corals you listed? Really interested to see your Ultimate's collection, and even more so your Pink panther. dustins and SOTRM colonies.

Has anyone said Leng Sy Cap. It allegedly can not be found in the wild and Leng Sy himself has lost his colony and looking for a piece. I would call that coveted.

Only not coveted because they are available but they were all coveted at one time. Many of my all time favorites on that list too.
