Hey guys. I've been thinking of changing my tank out for a 15 gallon and transfer everything over except sand. So basiclly I was looking for the extra water volume and go barebottom.

Currently I have two koralia a 240gph and once in a while I hook up a aqueon with a filter pad with carbon to clean the water up. I do 2 gallon water changes every week.

Will I benefit from this or will it be touch much trouble or risky for my livestock. I currently have 2 clownfish and a tailspot blenny. A few Lps coral and a bubbletip anemone. Tank is at least 6 months old.

If my tank looked like yours, I wouldn't mess with a thing! Unless you have some specific goal in changing it, I would leave it be.

why would you do that? The tank looks FANTASTIC!

Thanks I was thinking of doing this because of how dirty the sand looks sometimes. I was thinking I would add more water volume and be able to keep better water quality.

Sand has been kind of annoying to keep clean. The blenny poops a lot in a corner of the tank and I was thinking with no sand I would be able to keep things from the floor more. The cyano has cleared up a lot which is good. Basicly I like how everything is going but have been thinking about water quality and filtration recently. I started this as a low budget trial but now I want to play it safer.

maybe adjust more flow and add a HOB refugium?

instead of removing the sand i'd go get a couple nassarius snails they'd clean up all that detritus for you.
I have about 5 in my tank currently. They are usually under the sand unless I am feeding the tank. Haven't really noticed them eating anything? Should I worry about the blenny poop? I believe most is just sand but I still remove it.

I stoped using the smart wave and have both powerheads running all the time. I cannot lower them more toward the bottom since my sand is so fine.

I thought having a Refugium so small wouldn't do me any good. I was thinking of letting some macro algae grow behind the rocks instead.

NS if its a flow issue or a nutrient issue..

How many fish do you have in the tank and how often do you feed?
Two small clowns and a tail spot blenny. I feed once a day but very little. Either pellets or 2 times a week mysis soaked in fuel. The anemone will be getting fed once a week mysis. The cyano is going away but there is some brownslime on a few places on the rocks which I have been brushing off. Anything you suggest?

Thanks for your help by the way.

by chance are you washing your mysis shrmip before you feed?
There could be some phosphate that's leaching into the water via the food thus causing the out break of algae.
What type of pellets are you using?

Why don't you just slowly suck out the sand with your weekly water changes? That way you can have BB and wont need to swap everything and risk a crash

This is also an option. I have been doing this only in the problem areas and basicly just the surface when the cyano was thick. I though I would kill two birds with one stone by getting a slightly bigger tank. 5 gallons more is not a huge difference but in a nano a third bigger should count for something. Also just to add more space to clean and coral.
