I have a vertex deluxe unit with the booster pump which pumps at about 95psi , my iron got high last night (well water)I try to run the unit when the water isn't bad but I forgot it on and my tds now shows at around 12ppm. Think I wreck the ro membrane with the dirty water my water softer didn't remove the iron properly. ..happens at night usually. What RO membrane should I buy as all I see are for 50-60 psi and my booster pump reads 95 psi.

Vertex does sell replacement membranes, but I would go with DOW Filmtec. The PSI you are referring to is min required for membrane to perform its best. Google DOW Filmtec 100 gpd membrane and you will find info and even a spec sheet. t says 96% min. rejection 98% Typical, 150 psi max operating pressure. I would pick up more then one. The vertex unit teds to go through membranes quickly, about 1 per year because of the 1:1 ratio flow re stricter. Mind you it could also be from a combination of the 1:1 and Chloramine in the water you may also want to pick up a Chloramine Carbon Block. You should be able to get both from BRS.

I have no chloramine as it is well water but really high iron. Can I get a cheaper filter ahead of the membrane that will insure the iron is out before it makes it to it?

I think you will have to look it Iron removal in more detail as I think you will need a special home filter unit for well water. So I believe you would need to go from well to Iron filter to Water Softener to RO unit. But Like I said those Vertex are none for going through Membranes quickly. I have one sitting on my self as I need a to replace a shut off valve.

does anyone have a specific membrane they found to be better among most that they could refer?

You're not going to find a residential RO membrane designed to deal with "high" iron.

If your iron is really "high" then a water softener is not the best way to deal with it. Softeners can deal with lower levels of iron OK tho.

The thing to do: measure the iron content of your well water - if it fluctuates, let me know what a high reading is. We can go from there. Assuming you only have moderate levels of dissolved iron (typically below 3 ppm), then we can help you get your softener back up and doing what it should.
