I was at my LFS today and saw a 100 watt MH fixture that clamped on to the back of the tank and had a goose neck. I have a couple of Chinese black box LEDs over my 24 by 24 30 gallon frag tank and one needs replacing. I have had an itch to go back to MH for while and this seemed like a nice fit. Question is I could only find one 100w MH reef bulb and am kind of leery about finding them in the future. Are they available and I am just not finding them?

Not aware of 100w bulbs....you have a pic?

I do not. His response was

People stopped stocking 70 and 100w bulbs because of the popularity of LEDs, but can still get them. I may have a 150 unit at the store as well. I wont be back till Friday

I assume you see LFS and you are doubtful but I have known this guy for 30 years, my son worked for him and he supports our local reef club like you would not believe. I will try and get a make and model just curious if anyone was using a 100 watt bulb.

150w HQI Double Ended is what you are looking for.

Hamilton Bimini Sun is a good one... high quality.

You can get a 14k phoenix bulb for these, and many others.

They are pendants, so they are easy to keep cool.

AFAIK, 70, 150, 250, 400 and 1000 watts are the nominal wattages we can buy.

Checking out Venturelighting.com for household and industrial options and they do offer Uni-Form® pulse start bulbs in a 100-watt derivation, but only in room-light colors from 3000-5000K. Apparently they take an M90-standard ballast.

FWIW, folks never really stocked 70-watt much around here, but 150-watts might be what he's talking about....they've mostly been discontinued fairly recently. (Notably Radium 150w's are gone....Hamilton and others probably still offer them.)
