You have 1,000$ budget on a new reef tank (excluding livestock). What tank do you go for? I just sold my 60 cube and inhabitants because of the move to Michigan. I've been looking at the innovative marine 30 gallon and love it. I don't like biocube tanks or similar tanks. I like tanks that are long and shallow. Like the 30 gallon. At 475$ shipped without stand it's a fair price. There is also the innovative marine 16 gallon with a max spect razor for 668$. Then there is the same tank with the kessil led unit. It's a small unit but apparently is a good light. Does anyone know if this could support a bubble tip anemone? And if I went with the 30 gallon would two be sufficient? Thanks.

I would buy a 75 gallon, drill it myself. put 6 x t5, jebao wp40, sicce syncra silent 4.0 and a bubble magus curve 5.

Everything above can be bought for less than $600

I'm ordering the tank, just need Some last minute advice. Tank with the kessil led for 508$, or tank with standard led, two heaters, power head, rock, sand, salt, and refractometer for 450$ From bulk reef supply?

I'm limited to 20 gallons or less. And I've always bought there. Want a new tank on this one. Just need to know between the two set ups what people recommend.

I will go with the IM 16, beautiful tank, make sure you get the black version. As far as anemone's, I am sure both lights will be more than enough for an anemone. If I was you I would go with the kessil, just find out which kessil led they are offering and how many because I am sure one kessil will not cover the whole tank. Good Luck!

Thanks! I think I'm going to go with the one without the kessel. It is rated at 24 inch spread 30 inches deep, but with the standard tank I get rock, sand, salt, heaters, algae scraper, refeactometer, and a power head. Although the kessel is very nice, it would cost me an additional 200 to set up the tank. Hopefully I can find a used kessel going around.

Is the extra foot worth the extra 500$? I'm considering the 36" 60 gallon.

$500 more for just the tank?

Seems crazy to me if that's what it is. I could set up a 29 completely for $500..... That's for tank, t5 lights, heater, powerhead, hob filter, 4" sandbed and live rock!

So here is the setup I'm getting
Tank:
30 gallon innovative marine Nuvo aquarium and stand

Lighting:
2 gen 3 radion, which will be mounted on the tank

Filtration: innovative marine ghost skimmer mid size

Flow: mp 10

Rock: 10 pound real reef shelf
10 pound real reef base rock

Sand: black Hawaiian sand
I will be ordering all of this Friday if the house goes as plan.
The set up comes out to just above my mark at 3,000$.

$100 per gallon for a tank setup is completely insane to me. I had $500 in my 29 with everything and well under $2000 in my 40. The 40 has plenty of equipment

I know it's expensive but the radion led are half of the price. The tank and stand with all in one filtration at 700$ isn't that bad. I'm just going with the best equipment upfront to avoid buying it later on when I decide to upgrade my equipment.

But the radion is being "upgraded" every 8 months or something like that.

In no way am I trying to tell you what to do, please don't take it that way.

I will agree quality equipment is worth every penny. I used a lot of the more expensive equipment on my 40 because I want it to last. One thing I did go cheap on is lighting. The reason for this is because that cheap t5 light will give me great results, and I have proven this over the last 15 months on my 29 gallon. There are some things that I have found that work just as good as others with a much higher pricetag.

I see what you're saying. I've always gone cheap so I figured I might as well go all in on this one lol. And as far as upgrading I'm not on the ecotech bandwagon and have no plan of upgrading. If it works I'll keep it. I don't understand why people who are happy with there radion sell them for the new ones. I don't see the point in switching out working lights. I plan on using these for 7+ years. I've loved and used T5s, however I've also loved led. Major reason I'm going with this set up is because I can't have a sump on this tank. I need an all in one tank but a biocube is way to small.

I had the same mind frame with my 40 setup. I have always just thrown something together with no sump, skimmer etc. I wanted to do one the "right way" and its the biggest pain ever lol. I must have missed the part about not having a sump. Fwiw I have had better luck with a dsb and live rock than with anything else.

I've changed my mind so many times haha. I've finally decided on a tank... For now. I will be picking it up wends-Friday. It's a 85 gallon reef ready tank from Great Lakes aquariums. Stand, 14" tall canopy, sump, and plumbing comes out to about 775$. Plus my sand, rock, radions, skimmer, etc it all comes out to just under 3,000$. I like this set up much more.
