Hello, everyone so i said i was going to get a bigger tank so i could keep some of the bigger fish lol. I just got a 100g for $100. The only thing wrong with it is the left corner is leaking. I'm going to break is down and redo the silicone. But for a upgrade i wanted to keep the 6ft front & back and make the sides either 24 or 36". I would have to get another bottom but whats you all ideas on it. Because i wanted a 250g tank but i could not pass this tank up. Also this tank is open lid with the plastic around the edges.

With that size of a tank 72 X 36 X 18 you should use 1/2'' all the way around and the bottom and top should have a euro brace

The tank has 3/4 glass all around but I want to change the sides and bottom so I can have a 200g tank. But Idk about bracing it

IMO a 200 gal tank should also have a euro brace on the bottom as well as the top

Alright so the bottom of the tank will be 72x36. If I get 3/4 glass what type of glass should I get. I know it cant be tempered b/c I want to drill the tank.

Seems like you're getting in deep changing those dims. It's going to start adding up! All you're saving at this point is the front and back panels.

That's what I was just thinking.

Correct I was shooting for 72X36X18. Do you all think i'm wasting my time. Because as of right now I have a 100g and a 75g tank in the shop.

If you have the skill set to silicone a tank of that size, I'd sit down draw up my plans and dimensions. Get a quote for all the glass & silicone I'd need and then a quote for a new tank with similar/same dimensions. Probably custom, so it's going to cost some coin either way for sure.

Then i would make the call if the difference in price is worth the effort on my part. If it's not, fix it up as is :
Sell it for a profit towards the new system
Or
If I was positive a large system was in my future I'd throw some baffles in it for my future sump.

That's just me though. I've done a few diy things in the hobby like AIO conversions ect to save $$. It rarely turned out that way, but there is a sense of pride to doing it yourself. That's for sure.

EDIT:
I'd just like to clarify I'm not trying to shoot down your plans, just sharing some options and my experience. I think those dimensions would be awesome to work with and if you do it I'll be tagging along!

Yeah your right; plus like you said for me it's saying I built the tank. So if you had a 100g and a 75G tank which one would you use as a sump for let's say a 200 to 250g tank. The 100 is longer but not wider than the 75 or deeper than it.

oh i know you were not trying to shoot my idea now. I never thought that but some of the glass companies did haha. Glasscage was around 275 for all 3 piece but then id have to brace the tank so that would be extra.

I have seen ppl brace the tops of there tanks using euro bracing but would you Do the bottom?? idk
