Hi All,

Looking to get some opinions on what I should do with one of the chambers on my Nuvo fusion AIO. I have done many reef tanks below and this is not my first tank. In the first chamber I am doing filter floss and any media I want to run. My second chamber is where I am conflicted:

-Option 1: mini fuge with chaeto/macroalage and bio media with a small chaeto light
-Option 2: a protein skimmer with what bio media I can fit in the chamber below it
-Option 3-whole chamber full of bio media

For the bio media, I am running marine pure media so all high quality and super porous. I realize the important of having proper and even excess bio filtration and nutrient export so I am going for that overall.

Thoughts on what would be best overall? Going to run a mixed reef and I would like something that can help counter the affects of slight overstocking if that happens.

Thanks!

Look into InTank media basket for the nuvos. I have an IM 14g that has gone through 3 different skimmers, a fuge setup in the rear 2 chambers, and packed biomedia in 2nd chamber, but now I've settled to using an InTank media basket in the first chamber and skimmer in the second. I have filter floss up top of the media basket and the bottom two pockets hold chaeto. 2nd chamber has NuvoSkim DC skimmer. IMO having both might be a bit overkill on top of all the frequent water changes we do for our nano tanks. I guess it's all dependent on how much/often we feed. I trim my chaeto in the media basket every week and replace filter floss every 2 to 3 days. Skimmer pulls wet, but I clean it once a week as well.

Ok good to know. What kind of light are you using for your chaeto in the first chamber?

I had an extra wave point blade 9" LED light from my 9 gallon that I'm using, but I also second what Malifry97 recommends.

This is weekly routine. It grows extremely fast plus all the other patches of gha and sponges that grow in the empty spaces in between the basket and chambers. Consider water chemistry that support macro algae growth as well when trying to grow cheato. I have success with using accurasea 1 from two little fishies.
