I am downgrading my 20 high as soon as I get rid of my LPS and softies.
For this reef, I want it to be 98% SPS dominated.

Today, I went and got the tank, ripped the top rim off and tested it for leaks. It's all good.

The plan is to get some black acrylic and build my own AIO section. I plan for it to be 8.5" long x 4.5" wide. I will be getting the acrylic for it sometime this week hopefully.

The idea...

For the lights, I am going to build and LED fixture. I am going to use 8 XP-E royal blues and 4 XP-G neutral whites. All of the LED's will be ran on 1000mA Buckpucks with 5k pots. A guy is sending me 2 power supplies for them for free. Should be here this week.
I plan to do 4 rotating clusters instead of putting the LED's in a line. This has been proven to blend the colors better.
Example (I will not have optics)

Thats alot for that small of a tank!! i would probably cut that lisst in half haha :)
Very cool build. im folllowing

That will be one full 10 gallon tank! :waaaht:

What are you planning to do if half of them live and start to grow? As an example, I have a BOP that is just a little over 2 years old. It started as a 1 inch frag. It's bigger than a softball now and I regularly cut frags off it.

I would seriously reconsider your stocking list.

Good luck.

Haha yes I know that is a lot. I plan to buy them all as 1/2-2" frags so they will be cheaper and I will have room. I will frag them when needed. Hopefully after a year or 2 I will have some cash to set up a frag tank. But if I need to, I can put frags into my dad's 75g.

I'm sure I could do without a lot of those, but those are my tops that I would really like to have.

Frag tank?? with a 10 gallon ? Haha. Even with enough acros for my 75 gallon this will still be an awesome tank :)

Haha only if I need it.
I'm wanting to make it look amazing. It probably won't look that great in the beginning, but once everything starts to grow out, it will look good :D

I added some more SPS to the list haha :D

1 that I really like is the ORA Bellina acro

That will be one of the 1st ones I get if possible...

The Bellina is an awesome coral! You have to get just the right placement to keep those colors. Otherwise its just a purple acro......

Where is the right placement? I pm'd you about the halides.

I ordered my LED stuff today. I got...

8 XP-E royal blue led's with 80* optics
4 XP-G neutral white led's with 80* optics
10ft blue wire
10ft white wire
multi meter
thermal adhesive
14" x 4" heatsink
2 1000mA buckpucks

My power supplies are also on the way. Should get this thing started next week :)

I would like to model my tank after this...

I just spent the last 30 minutes or so drawing out an LED diagram. The measurements should all be correct. I don't think the LED's are to size, but the area they take up is correct.

I am still working on wiring. I am trying to get it where I will have all the LED's turned correctly so I will have clean wiring.

What do you think?

Looking at the last picture, your may want to make sure you don't wire your toes in the LED circuits.

What size is that tank??

i can see youre shooting for the stars on this one 1smile1

A 10 gallon is going to be hard to keep the parameters in line. I'm not saying it can't be done by any means. I have seen some killer 10 gallon set ups before, but for me it would be too much work to be able to enjoy it. LOL. I guess that's why I keep BIG tanks now days......They are a lot of work too but the parameters stay in check a lot better. I hope it works out good for ya. I can't wait to see some progress shots.....

Sadly he is right that's why I'm upgrading to a 75 before I'm going to college.

Nanos are not too complicated from my point of view. I'm on my 3rd. I learned from my mistakes on my 1st and now I am a pro at them haha.
I have learned that you have to keep up with your water changes and you should be fine.
I do 4g water changes every week on my 20H and that gets annoying. With this 10g, I plan to do 1g water changes every 3 days. Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. And since it is an SPS tank, I plan on dosing with alk and cal as needed.

Thanks for the concern. I would go bigger if I could. Just can't afford it haha.
