hey guys having some temperature problems since its getting cold already i havent been running the heat in my house ( tanks 3 feet from heater ) the temperature been dropping to about 74 during the nights and mornings than raising to 78-79 during the day when the house warms up from the sun. i currently have a 50W heater on my 10 gallon is it safe to upgrade to a 100W heater to keep the temp at 78 even when it gets colder in the house when the heats down?

I have it set to 79 i dunno keeps turning on and off usually doesn’t keep it at 78 / 79 if it’s rally cold out

How cold do you allow your home to get down to??? If you have icicles forming in the house then I think you would have a hard time maintaining temp regardless of the heater wattage...:D

i have the same dilemma, but what works for me to keep temps between 78 to 79 is before i go to bed and lights turn off i raise the temp a tad bit, and in the morning i turn it back down to where it was

If you have not already done so pick that tank up and set it on a sheet of Styrofoam. It will help... a little.

yah becomes a hassle tho think ima order a 100w Heater and just try to keep it 77-80

You can go up to a 150Wt. The higher wattage = faster heating and less work for it to do and sounds like heater may need replacement

If the tank doesn't have much flow and the 50w also just being slightly too weak in my 10 gal qt a eheim jager 75w works fine if it a aqueon heater that you are using I have seen temps down by four degrees and they still wont turn on but just my guess.

Yah ima order a new one better safe than sorry
