Hi guys.
Had the go ahead from the wife for an in wall 200g. After contacting a few custom tank suppliers I’ve settled on one and was ALMOST ready to push the go button. I re read the quot..
I’m having a glass, braced, 72x24x28. They have spec’d 10mm glass front and sides. I’d this really enough? My wife is kind of clumsy & ive got a handy toddler running around..

Should I go thicker or is 10mm okay?

Thanks

Hmm. My 120 is 1/2 inch. Is there a reason they are using 0.4 inch? Is this a cost savings brand? Maybe that's the standard. I haven't shopped large tanks for some time now.

They say because it’s braced; it doesn’t NEED to be any thicker than 10mm.. that was what was quoted. I think I’ll ask them to make it in 1/2”

For that height I wouldn't settle for anything less than 1/2" glass. Peace of mind and greater longevity despite higher potential cost is worth it imo.

0.5" all the way. Already spending a bunch of money on a big tank, so might as well spend the extra bit to make sure it will last.

Put it this way, I bought a used 230 gallon that a guy had custom made. It's 0.5" glass, braced and a 0.75" bottom.

If it terrifies you then go 1/2" for sure it worth the piece of mind. If it were me i would be fine with 10mm if braced. Maybe just cause the older i get the more painful moving big thick glass tanks is :)

10 mm for 28" tall tank does seem awfully thin. My marineland 265 was 12 mm at 30" tall and that made me really nervous (it had a 19mm bottom).
