110 external reef octopus used internally

I have my 110 ext reef octopus placed in my sump. My question is how or do you still have to use a pump to pump the water in or just leave open the valve under water where the pump would go?

Well I have the 110 ext. these papers do not show me how to use the device internally

I misunderstood what your asking.....I see you want to use it in your sump, I thought you meant you wanted to use it externally.
If you have the sump space...I guess you could just sit it in there and run it the way you would externally, although I’ve never heard of anyone doing that.

I used to have one of these skimmers

You still need to feed it with something , even a MJ1200 would prob work

I had a manifold off my return and fed it off that when I had my reefer 250

So I place the feed pump in sump with the skimmer and let it run

I believe you would just make sure the outlet of the skimmer is not under water, to keep the water level inside at the right height.

I ran this exact same skimmer in my reefer and it was in sump.

Nice thing about the externals is that they aren’t picky about water level.

Just feed it with a pump in the sump, or tee it off of your return. I’d shoot for 400-600 gph. Then you use the gate valve to adjust the height in the skimmer

You can then use the plumbing that came with it to discharge under the waterline. Just remember to use the vertical vent pipe if you do discharge under the water. Otherwise it creates a slight siphon effect. But if the outlet pipe is only partially submerged then you should be ok without it.

Hey thanks you guys. I think I’m going to need a little more insight to help me out though. Cause the guy from the aquarium store hooked a hose from under the waste jar into the inlet in the bottom of the skimmer saying that it all works together and the pump on the other side would let in the water.
